Miniature Scale & Size Guide

Miniature furniture comes in many sizes. A chair designed for a 1:12 dollhouse might look very different beside a 1:24 diorama or a 1:6 collectible display. Before buying a piece, check its actual dimensions rather than relying on the photo alone.

What does miniature scale mean?

A scale of 1:12 means that 1 unit in the miniature represents 12 of the same units in real life. The smaller the second number, the larger the miniature relative to the real object.

Scale One real-life foot becomes Common context
1:6 2 in (50.8 mm) Larger collectible scenes
1:12 1 in (25.4 mm) Classic dollhouse interiors
1:24 0.5 in (12.7 mm) Smaller room scenes
1:48 0.25 in (6.35 mm) Tiny architectural miniatures

How to check whether furniture will fit

  1. Measure the available width, depth and height in your dollhouse, room box or display.
  2. Check the listing's dimensions and unit of measurement, especially centimetres versus millimetres.
  3. Confirm the product's stated scale if one is provided. Some decorative pieces are not manufactured to a strict scale.
  4. Allow extra clearance for doors, chairs and other objects you intend to move or arrange.

How do I convert a real-life dimension?

Divide a real-world measurement by the scale denominator. For example, a real 180 cm long table becomes 15 cm long at 1:12 scale and 7.5 cm long at 1:24 scale.

Can I mix scales?

Some decorative objects can work across different scenes, but furniture intended for one scale may look oversized or undersized in another. Use the published measurements to decide. A scale label is a guide, not a substitute for checking actual fit.
